The First Year Student Workbook & Pattern packets teach students how to: follow written sewing terms & directions, use a paper pattern, to use 1-2 pattern pieces, lay the pattern on the fabric, cut out the fabric, make casings, hem, make a facing, pivot stitch, back-tack, make a slit, clip around curves, work from the fold line, measure from the straight of grain, use notches, pin, press, measure seam allowance, top stitch, use a tape measure, use a seam guage and other equipment, how to press using an iron, determine pattern size, thread elastic, how to thread and use the sewing machine, how to construct and complete a wearable garment. Included are nine clothing projects, plus a sewing bag and a notions bag project.
The Second Year STudent Workbook & Pattern packets teach students how to: make slits, use bias tape, inset a sleeve, use knit fabric, make a drawstring waist casing, make a button hole, double top-stitch, baste stitch, make ribbing, ruffles, gather, stretch stitch, hand sew. There are eight clothing projects included in this packet.
The Third Year Student Workbook & Pattern Packet teaches students how to: sew in interfacing, add lining, make a fly front, hem circular method, insert a zipper, attach a waistband, make buttonholes, add ribbing, add pockets, add lace, make pocket welts, top stitch, make straps, set in sleeves, sew on buttons, sew on hooks & eyes, make pleats, stretch fabric, hand sewing, add more pattern pieces for new design. Included are 8 clothing projects.
Commerical patterns are not recommended until the child is at least 12 years old and has completed the first year workbook packet. Once your child graduates to commercial patterns they can bring their projects to the class and I will be more than happy to continue to help them.
